Hispanic Heritage Education Workshop
Tuesday, October 4th, 2022

On September 24th, our education team held a Hispanic Heritage Month workshop for the 6-12th grade scholars. Youth who attended the virtual event learned about the history of Hispanic Heritage Month, beginning with legislation signed into law in 1968 by President Lyndon Johnson, to the expansion from a commemorative week to a month-long recognition in 1988.

In addition to highlighting the contributions of Hispanic/Latinx Americans in politics, culture, and the arts, the Education team centered the presentation on exploring Hispanic Serving Institutions, their history, their purpose, and their impact on higher education in the United States. We were also pleased to be joined by a member of the Junior League of Los Angeles who shared her higher education story and her experience attending a Hispanic Serving Institution.
