Honoring Angelica Nwandu:
As the founder of The Shade Room, a Black entertainment news source that has transformed how the world consumes news, Angelica is paving the way for other Black women to pursue their passions and dreams. Named to Forbes’ “30 under 30” list and called “the Oprah of our generation” by Refinery29, Angelica has not only created a successful global media company but also keeps her passion for helping others at the forefront of her mind. As a UFC alumna, Angelica has participated in our Education Program, which provides financial, academic, social and emotional support for foster youth pursuing college. Her deep-rooted passion for helping our LA County foster youth has made her one of our most generous donors, and she is truly an inspiration to us all. This year, we are honored to celebrate Angelica and present her with United Friends’ Brass Ring Award.
Honoring Judy Billings:
Judy Billings was introduced to United Friends of the Children in the nineties by late Founder Nancy M. Daly. She got involved immediately and helped start the Foster Family Program, which has now become the Scholars Program. Since then, she has been a steadfast supporter, advocate and Board Member of United Friends. Judy’s commitment to Los Angeles County foster youth extends beyond United Friends. She also dedicated many years of service to Hollygrove, another local organization that works with younger foster children and their caregiving families. In addition, Judy has served on the Board of the Forstmann Foundation for the past ten years, enabling her to help underserved children all over the world. Judy is a proud mom of two foster sons from South Africa. They are both happily married, and living in NYC and Cape Town. Judy is an incredible advocate for all children and youth in need and we are honored to award her this year with the Nancy M. Daly Founder’s Award.
